Intro to digital distribution for publishers

June 9th, 2011

If, as a publisher, you have not jumped on the digital book bandwagon yet, why in the world not? All signs point to more and more growth in the industry. For example, Since April 1, for every 100 print books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 105 Kindle books. And in February, eBooks ranked as the No. 1 format along all trade categories, according to Association of American Publishers February 2011 Sales Report. It’s clear: eBooks are not just a fad.

Are you ready to give it a go? OverDrive has developed an informational sheet to get you started. The resources included will help you start selling your digital books to retail and library channels. First, you’ll need to understand the basics; educate yourself about EPUB, IDPF, and copyright protection. Next, get prepared. You’ll need to checkout a few online tools and possibly find some help for conversion. You may want to work with an aggregator, as well. Have no idea where to get one of those? No worries, we’ve got a few ideas.

After taking these necessary steps, you will be ready to start your distribution process. That’s where OverDrive comes in. Complete our publisher application, and if accepted, you’ll be given instructions for providing your titles to OverDrive. Soon you will be selling to our multichannel distribution network, including 15,000 libraries, schools, colleges, and booksellers worldwide.
