Most Downloaded Books from the Library Lists for October 2010

November 2nd, 2010

Fall of GiantsDon't BlinkThe Accidental BillionairesThe Confession

While the consistent forces on the Most Downloaded Lists still remain, a big fall publication schedule has allowed new titles to debut.

The first book in Ken Follett’s new historical fiction trilogy, Fall of Giants, came in at No. 6 on the Most Downloaded eBooks and No. 8 on the Most Downloaded Audiobook lists.

Don’t Blink joins fellow James Patterson titles Private and 9th Judgment as the No. 10 Most Downloaded eBook and Audiobook.

The Most Downloaded Nonfiction eBooks list has several new titles, including Stephen Hawking’s The Grand Design at the No. 5.  The traditional pattern of a movie release catapulting its book counterpart back into bestseller lists is no different for The Accidental Billionaires.  More commonly known to movie-goers as The Social Network, Ben Mezrich’s book chronicling the inception of Facebook nabs the No. 6 spot.

Possibly the biggest release of the fall season was The Confession by John Grisham.  The blockbuster thriller that plays upon the ideology of guilt and innocence comes in at No. 5 on the Most Downloaded Audiobooks just one week after its Oct. 26 release.

Other noteworthy quick fall release rises include Bill Bryson’s At Home, making the No. 8 spot on the Most Downloaded Audiobooks list, and Rick Riordan’s latest children’s/young adult crossover The Lost Hero, also nabbing the No. 8 spot on the Most Downloaded Juvenile Audiobooks List.

As fall releases continue to rollout, I am predicting that November’s list will include the final book in Nora Roberts’ Bride Quartet, Happy Ever After, and George Bush’s long-awaited tell-all Decision Points.

The Most Downloaded Books from the Library lists are organized by subject and format, and compiled based on activity at more than 11,000 libraries in the OverDrive global network. You can view these lists of most downloaded books for the month of October in Content Reserve.
