For more than a year, OverDrive has issued monthly “Most Downloaded Books from the Library” lists, which features popular eBook and audiobook downloads from all libraries in our global network. The lists were an instant hit, helping our library partners guide collection development decisions.

Today, we’re excited to announce an expansion of the “Most Downloaded Books from the Library” lists, with territory-specific charts for the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. Now libraries can use more precise lists to determine titles their local readers want most. Check out what was hot last month below, or click the links to see a full list for each region.

• In the UK, British author Howard Jacobson’s fiction novel and winner of the 2010 Man Booker Prize, The Finkler Question graces the Most Downloaded eBook list. Beloved author and actor Stephen Fry’s nonfiction The Fry Chronicles also tops the list.

• Canadian readers have been enjoying Millennium Trilogy novels by Stieg Larsson, while The Sentimentalists by Johanna Skibsrud, winner of the Scotiabank Giller Prize, has started its climb on the Most Downloaded eBook list. In nonfiction, Canadian blogger Neil Pasricha’s blook The Book of Awesome holds the No. 1 spot.

• Aussie author Kate Morton’s The Forgotten Garden appears on the Most Downloaded Adult Fiction list in Australia, while House Rules by Jodi Picoult has reached number one. Also, Hitch-22 by Christopher Hitchens is one of the most downloaded nonfiction novels in Australia.

• The US list differs from the global list, as well. The Girl with Dragon Tattoo by Larsson and John Grisham’s latest novel, The Confession , top the adult fiction eBook list. George W. Bush’s Decision Points and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand top the nonfiction list.

While in the past, it looked like readers across the globe had similar reading interests, consumers also seem to have an intense loyalty to local authors.
