Over the hissing of August cicadas, you can faintly hear the sound of children everywhere sighing. In just a few weeks, they’ll be packing up their shiny new eReaders and freshly sharpened colored pencils and heading back to school. Before the big yellow bus rounds the corner, you can prepare your library’s digital collection to ensure that students start off the school year on the right foot.
Throughout August, we’re offering more than 1,000 juvenile and young adult fiction and nonfiction eBooks and audiobooks at 30-percent off. With a variety of subjects and reading levels to fit any curriculum, we have the titles to suit YOUR students!
Just Starting Out
Get young children hooked on reading with beginner’s books like the Dear Dragon series (“Dear Dragon Helps Out,” “Dear Dragon Goes to the Bank“) filled with eye-catching illustrations and simple text. Early readers will enjoy solving perplexing mysteries with the lovable elementary school heroine in the Agent Amelia series (“Spooky Ballet!,” “Zombie Cows!“), which doubles as a great read-aloud choice for teachers. For little ones still sharpening their skills, we’re discounting picture books like “The Legend of Ninja Cowboy Bear,” a fun fable involving three friends who learn that each are special in their own way.
Reaching Reluctant Teen Readers
Less experienced readers require extra effort to connect with literature. An array of compelling choices with true-to-life storylines, as you’ll find in “The Lit Report,” will appeal to teen readers with elements of romance and drama. Anne Schraff’s Urban Underground series (“One of Us,” “To Be a Man“) connect with older students by presenting relatable characters who face everyday challenges like friendship, drugs and bullies.
Classroom Classics
Year after year, these tried-and-true classics inspire a fresh crop of kids. We carry essentials like “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” “The Great Gatsby,” “The Turn of the Screw” and dozens more of these high-school English must-haves.
The Nitty-Gritty of Nonfiction
Fiction is fun, but when students are ready to get down to the nitty-gritty of nonfiction, we have books on everything from “Snowplows” to “See-Through Animals” and everything else in between. Books on “Bloodsucking Leeches“? Yeah, we’ve got them, too.
Teachers Need eBooks, Too!
Teachers know that learning is lifelong and that education shouldn’t stop with a diploma. OverDrive helps educators beef up on best practices with picks like “They Snooze, You Lose” and “The Classroom Teacher’s Survival Guide.”

It should be clear in the title that this list includes audio-only titles (such as Great Gatsby). You got my branch librarians’ hopes up for Gatsby in ePub and/or Kindle and then dashed them! Schools in this area, at least, will not accept the average student listening to a book instead of reading it.
Hi Jennifer- Thanks for the note, and sorry for any confusion. I changed the title of this blog to reflect the fact that the sale includes both eBooks and audiobooks. As for “The Great Gatsby,” only the Blackstone Audio version is on sale. Best, Mike
